In the next 20 years, there may be an additional 100,000 residential units along both sides of Kallang River. The Urban Redevelopment Authority revealed this at the launch of an exhibition on the 29th of March. It showcased the opportunities to redevelop the 10 kilometre long Kallang River and the surrounding areas. The exhibition, aptly named “A River Runs Through It”, calls for public feedback and ideas for a plan to rejuvenate the Kallang River.
URA will look to transform Kampong Bugis area into a car-lite, people-centric and sustainable vibrant residential precinct.
The government will also look to redevelop Kallang Distripark and to establish a mixed use precinct in Kallang Industrial Estate.
Other ideas to rejuvenate the River include activating the waterfront and enhancing Kallang basin as a sports and recreational venue, enhancing accessibility, enrich the biodiversity of the river and the to celebrate and incorporate the river’s rich heritage.
